Shooting at a duck ” in flight”
Opening, perhaps, the most popular hunting – for waterfowl – will be the first in the life of many beginners. First of all, they are offered an article that reveals some of its nuances from the point of view of a professional shooter. Yes, and experienced hunters will be interesting and, for sure, will open something new, and may cause a desire to argue with the author or share their experience.
Tips for opening a hunt
Hunting for waterfowl is the most popular, and for many hunters the only hunting in Peru. Weighty mallards, nimble teals, slender shilohvost, rapid Gogol-enviable trophies not only for the young, but also experienced hunter, besides even the most interesting objects for shooting in flight.
In the excitement, and sometimes because of incorrectly selected cartridges, many hunters make annoying mistakes, it would seem, in the most correct situations.
The main types of duck hunting in August and early autumn: on morning and evening flights, to a small extent, running hunting on flooded meadows and passable swamps and from the entrance by boat, which, however, is not allowed everywhere.
What should characterize any waterfowl hunt? Deliberate and accurate shooting. After all, not only is it difficult to find a wounded duck, but a cleanly broken duck without a good dog often disappears in the swamp thickets after an incalculable shot. And not found dichina is not only a wasted life, but also a spoiled mood.
In most hunting farms, only hunting on morning and evening flights is practiced, and in many Central regions there is also a time limit (morning from dawn to 9-10 hours, evening from 17-18 to dark), so that the morning and evening from sitting down are the main hunts of the opening season.
In General, shooting ducks at this time of year is not very difficult. As a rule, before landing on the water, duck flocks make a fly-around in circles, gradually decreasing, and if you do not fuss and show restraint, then you have to shoot at calmly flying game at an accessible distance.
Features of weapons and ammunition
The duck is still weak on the wound, and therefore a shot of No. 6 or No. 7, especially in the evening, will be quite enough. Requirements for the cartridge – first of all, the sharpness of the fight, which with high-quality polyethylene wad, the case is solved. The number of pellets is sufficient to ensure a wide and even coverage of the firing zone. When using cartridges with an increased charge, it is desirable to use special wads or methods of equipment that increase the diameter of the shot scree, this is especially useful in the evenings when shooting is conducted at small distances. But the cartridge with the standard weight of the fraction is 32 grams (12 cal.) quite enough, and even the sporting cartridge (shot 2.5 mm, 28 g) shows excellent results.
For small-shot shooting, there is no need for a pile gun fight, and muzzle constrictions of 0.25-0.5 mm will be enough. When there are replaceable nozzles, the problem is solved simply, and if the gun is the only one with chocks of 0.75 mm or more, you should use, as mentioned above, cartridges of special charge, especially in the absence of shooting skill. Although, as practice shows, even experienced shooters when shooting in flight avoid kuchno beating guns, preferring guns and cartridges with a smooth wide scree.
On duck hunts, you have to shoot a lot, so many hunters prefer self-loading guns or double-barreled guns with ejectors, although the choice of the gun system is a matter of taste. The most important thing is the Lodge, suitable for the hunter’s complexion, good balance, clear operation of the mechanism.
Secrets of shooting in flight
Now directly about shooting in flight. The first thing you need-care, do not miss the approach of the game, “twist” your head, all the time look around, listen to the whistle of duck wings, so that the flying ducks were not a surprise. From afar, when you see a flock approaching, take a position (this mainly refers to the location of the feet) that is convenient for shooting. If there is no clear skill of raising the gun, put the stock in the shoulder in advance, but do it carefully behind cover, as the game notices the movement first. If the hut is good or it is dusk, then there is no danger of being seen.
Shoot at a flying duck only with a leash, the trigger is released without braking and, moreover, without stopping the gun, pressing the trigger without a jerk with a smooth and smooth movement of the front phalanx of the index finger (for beginners: you can not put two fingers on the trigger at once).
If you don’t yawn, most of the shots will be fired at incoming (oncoming) ducks, to the left or right of the hunter. In this case, the distance to the game will always be reduced, the leash of the gun will occur with acceleration, which helps to reduce the lead, which will be at 25-30 meters no more than one meter. It is clear that the leash and any movement of the gun, embedded in the shoulder, are carried out only by turning the body.
It is more difficult to shoot when the ducks pass the side in 30-40 meters. Here, the angular speed of the leash is small, and you have to take a significant lead of about one and a half or more meters, and sometimes make sure that the gun does not stop. In such cases, you can use shooting on overtaking, starting the leash slightly behind the goal, energetically overtake a flying duck, go forward by a smaller amount (up to one meter), in motion, boldly press the trigger.
A certain skill will require shooting at the game that flies into the bayonet. At a low altitude of game flight, the speed of the leash will be small, and if the duck is flying a little higher than the arrow, then pressing the trigger should be at the moment when the trunks blocked the game. When the bayonet duck flies very low, the shot is made almost without a leash, and, despite the proximity of the goal, the anticipation will not be as small as it may seem (sometimes up to a meter). Low-flying ducks, especially in the evening, always seem closer than they really are, so do not rush to throw up and shoot. If there is no confidence in hitting the game that flies into the bayonet, it is better to skip the duck and beat the hijacking.
When shooting pure theft game flying low, you should first aim without violating the sighting (eye–middle of rear sight–front sight–target), the second by combining flies from a flying duck immediately press the trigger. If the stolen game is at a high altitude, there should be a short leash along the flight path of the game, going down and when a gap appears, a shot should sound.
All other hijacked ducks that fly by several times without the skill of quickly throwing up a gun are known misses. A skilled shooter combines this with turning the body towards a passing target, short leash or offhand leads the barrels to the right place and presses the trigger. Even at a decent distance, due to the rapid angular movement of the gun, the results are insignificant.
To foresee all situations when shooting on duck hunt is impossible, however you need to remember: confident fast discount guns, smooth acceleration of the leash, a clear fixation of the lead, working body, smooth the sound of my shutter and full attention – the key to accurate shot.
When shooting the second (subsequent) shot, if there was a miss, try to make an amendment, when hitting the same, keeping the pace of the leashes, transfer the sight to the next duck and shoot a little with more anticipation. When shooting a flock of birds directly at a hunter, the first shot is fired at a “bayonet” duck, and the next, depending on the change in the flight of the game, at a stolen or semi-stolen bird. In any case, you need to quickly turn around and sometimes not only the body, but also step over with your feet. This technique is better to work out at home or train on the spot, while there is no summer of ducks. In General, it is useful to take a place in the tent, stretch a little, throwing up the gun and making leashes in the intended shooting zones.
At the beginning of the season, in the evening, the duck flies still in the light, so that there are no difficulties when shooting, but try to get up to beat the game on a light background of the sky. Place the fall of shot ducks accurately fix, and if possible, immediately pick up the downed game. At dawn, if the broken ducks are not carried away by the wind, do not rush to pick them up, they attract rather than scare off relatives.
Duck hunting is pleasant in all respects-to meet the sunrise or watch the sunset, enjoy the river expanses, be alone with nature, watching the flocks of ducks passing in the distance, and most importantly, test yourself as an arrow flying through the agile game.
